The following takes place between 5:20 pm and 5:50 pm.
I stopped putting folded laundry away because it was time for me to make dinner. I realized though that I didn't set out hamburger to thaw. So I grab a paper plate and put a pound of hamburger in the microwave for a snappy defrost. When thawed, I cook it in the pan with the other needed ingredients. I set the paper plate on the stove and use it as my spoon holder. Meanwhile, I'm trying to keep Nathan occupied by "helping" me make dinner. He dumps all of the plastic knives on the floor, tries to dump out every spice in the spice rack all over the stove, and talks in super-excited-about-everything-Nathan-jibberish. I call Corey to see when he's leaving Logan so I can try to time the pasta right for when he'll be home. He's actually already on his way, he says. So I hurry and get the pot filled with water and put the pasta in and turn on the burner. Then the phone rings. I answer a bunch of questions about the price of our rooms, upper or lower level, wi-fi, and discounts. I come back in the kitchen to find the paper plate and wooden utensil sitting on the plate on fire. Yup, I had turned on the wrong burner for the pasta. I grabbed something to smother it, threw the spatula in the sink. At least we know the smoke alarm works. While I'm airing out the kitchen and living room, the phone rings again. It's the owner's wife. She needs a measurement of the windows in the rooms for some new window treatments. She's at the store right now and it closes at 6:00. While I'm on the phone, the pasta boils over. I turn the stove down. Then, while I'm still on the phone, a guy walks in to get a room. I hurry and check him in, he had been here several times before so I could just easily charge his card and give him his key. I find my shoes so I can run out and get that measurement. Now the pasta is done. So I make my layers in the casserole dish and get it in the oven for 20 mins. I grab the tape measure and run outside to measure the window. Then I hear Corey pull in. We do still successfully have a yummy dinner. And my stove did wipe clean after everything cooled off.
And it all started because I hadn't thawed my meat.
